Title: The Biggest Lie is Who We Are
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kiltsocks
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] colourlesscas
Fandom/Genre: Supernatural RPS AU
Pairing: Jensen Ackles/Misha Collins
Rating: NC:17
Wordcount: 35,500

Disclaimer: I have borrowed the names of real people, but this story and the characters depicted are entirely fictional.

Summary: Misha Collins, newspaper reporter and wannabe author, is searching for the final story to conclude his book on unsolved murders. The small town of Cedar Ridge could be hiding just what he needs, or rather who he needs - Jensen Ackles, son of Helen Ackles; the final victim of the elusive Slate County Slasher. Nearly twenty years after the murders, Misha thinks the young man might hold the key to finally unlocking the identity of the killer. At the very least, the tragic story of a four year old finding his mother hacked to death will sell books.

When Misha meets Jensen however, his professional detachment soon crumbles, and with more than one person in Cedar Ridge hiding secrets, finishing his book might soon be the least of his worries.

A/N: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang 2014. I'd like to thank the awesome mods of the dcbb. They do a fantastic job of running this massive and massively popular challenge.

Thank you too, to my lovely and talented artist [livejournal.com profile] colourlesscas, for being such a pleasure to work with and also for producing some amazing artwork. Please go visit her and show your appreciation.

I also owe huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] the_diggler for listening to me whine and ramble in the early days of this story. Her help and encouragement were invaluable and pushed me through the block that I’d stumbled into it.
Last but definitely not least, thank you to [livejournal.com profile] siennavie and [livejournal.com profile] somersault_j for their cheerleading as well as all the time and effort they put into beta-ing this fic. They went above and beyond and I appreciate it more than I can honestly say. Any mistakes remaining are entirely my fault, because I just can’t leave well enough alone.

A/N Written for the Dean/Cas Bigbang challenge and my god... what a challenge!! I have loved and hated this story in equal measure while writing it and am more nervous about posting this than anything I've written before. This story was originally inspired by Rudimental's Waiting All Night video but really has absolutely nothing to do with it or Kurt Yaeger who starred in it. I need to thank my wonderful beta [livejournal.com profile] dimeliora who sorted out my grammar, reigned in my excess schmoopiness and saved you all from my weird untranslatable British expressions. I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] saltandburnboys too because she has no idea how much her words of encouragement helped to keep me going when things got rough during the editing. More thanks to the mods at [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang for the smooth running of such a huge challenge and finally - I promise - immeasurable thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hrymfaxe for her endless patience, help, enthusiasm and her breath-taking artwork. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to work with someone so lovely and talented over the past couple of months. Please rush over and show your appreciation for her stunning artwork!

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy the story!
