Title: Monsters are Real
Fandoms: Supernatural, Criminal Minds
Pairings: None! Yep, none - totally gen!
Characters: Dean Winchester, Aaron Hotchner, Derek Morgan, Jason Gideon, John Winchester
Rating: Teen
Wordcount: 8,000 words
Warnings: Nothing too descriptive but mentions of underage prostitution and child abuse, and a case involving the deaths of children.

Summary: 'Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win.' Stephen King.

The kid sitting in the interview room swings on the rear legs of his chair, throws back his head, and at the top of his lungs, sings a painfully off-key version of 'Wanted Dead or Alive'. Hotch looks at Morgan with one eye-brow arched in question. "You think he's your unsub?"

A/N: Another one of my mini_wrimo fics and this one is a little different from my norm and way out of my comfort zone. This is for the very beautiful and crazy talented [livejournal.com profile] siennavie. She drew me amazing art of Hotch and Dean because she shares my love of tortured heroes. I hope you enjoy the fic.

Oh. my. god. I am the luckiest girl!!! :D You are the sweetest, babe! What a surprise to wake up to! *grins ear to ear* I devoured this before lunch (I really woke up that late!) because I just couldn't wait. This was a flawless piece and it got even better and better as it went on. So...what's a stronger word than flawless? :D That was brilliant using the parallels between Hotch and Dean in the interrogation room (I'm so happy you addressed Hotch's own abusive childhood), how Hotch deduced where Sam went, and I loved how Dean managed to get under Hotch's skin as well. And then you brought in John! That was different and intriguing, and the interaction between them was so intense - how John was rather gruff and dismissive of Hotch and yet Hotch stood up to John in that quiet but no less fierce way. And I liked how no one really saw eye-to-eye, no one saw the situation the same way, even Hotch and Gideon. All of that conflict -- that was still written true to character -- was fantastic. What an emotionally gripping story. I LOOOOVED IT *squeezes you* Thankyouthankyouthankyou!

You liked it!!!! Seriously...you deserved more, but I was a bit nervous about writing Hotch so I needed to ease into it, lol! I'm glad you thought it was true to character, that was my biggest worry. And I had to write about Hotch's - very obviously - abusive childhood. I have to say, once I started writing, the parallels between Hotch and Dean were just there. It was interesting to write a story with all that conflict and no real bad guy; lots of secrets and lies though!

I'm just glad you liked it! *hugs and kisses* <3 <3 <3
